The existing Early Years Foundation Stage Profile ‘Exemplification Materials’ for Reading, Writing, Number and Speaking were updated by the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) in August 2014. The ‘Exemplification Materials’ are a selection of documents which demonstrate children’s learning at the expected level of attainment for the end of EYFS (Reception). Early Years teachers use these documents all over the UK to help them award levels of attainment. Feltham Hill Infant and Nursery School had more examples of high quality observations published in the new ‘Exemplification Materials’ than any other school in the UK.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team are working closely with an independent consultant. She has been very impressed with the provision and quality of observations by EYFS staff. In the summer term, Reception teachers were asked to submit a selection of observations of children's learning in Reading, Writing Number and Speaking from children’s learning journals. These high quality observations show children displaying their embedded learning within an enabling environment, working at the expected level for the end of Reception. The observation samples were put into a mix with samples from a number of other schools. National Advisors then selected 8 high quality observations to go into the new ‘Exemplification Materials’ documents and published them on the government website.
