Star Class

Autumn 2  – Life at Sea

We have really enjoyed learning about our new topic Life at Sea! We had the RNLI come in to teach us all about keeping safe around water! We got to learn new information – including what all the different flags at a beach meant!

In maths we have been learning about multiplication and using this to help us learn our 2, 5 and 10 times tables! We are becoming multiplication experts!

In our science lessons we have been learning about floating and sinking. We tested different materials to see if they floated or sank! Some of the results surprised us! After that we changed the shape of different materials to see if that would change whether it floated or sank!

We have also been learning about a very important lady called Grace Darling in our history lessons. We re-told her story of how she saved the lives of 9 people who were drowning in the sea near to her lighthouse!

Autumn 1 Materials

Wow! What an exciting half term we have had in Star class. Our topic ‘Materials’ has taught us so much Science! We know different materials names and even know their properties. We investigated to see what happened when we added water to different materials. Some of our findings really surprised us – especially when we found out that sugar dissolves in water! We were amazed!

We had a special visitor called Professor Bubbleworks who taught us even more exciting Science experiments. He showed us how different materials combine to make slime and even showed us what happens when fire and wind mixes together in a storm! It was really fun!

In Maths we have been learning all about adding and subtracting. This includes 10 more and 10 less than a number, as well as, 1 more and 1 less. We have been practising our number bonds to 10 and 20 and have been embedding this through playing a quick maths game!
