Science around our school

Throughout all of Key Stage 1 Science there is a focus on 'Working Scientifically'. This includes:

  • asking simple questions and recognising that they can be answered in different ways
  • observing closely, using simple equipment
  • performing simple tests
  • identifying and classifying
  • using their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions
  • gathering and recording data to help in answering questions

This is a way for your children to build curiosity about the world around them and feel excited about learning Science.

Children are taught to use their 'Working Scientifically' skills through the following Core Areas from the National Curriculum:

Year 1

  • Plants
  • Animals, including humans
  • Everyday materials
  • Seasonal changes

Year 2

  • Living things and their habitats
  • Plants
  • Animals, including humans
  • Uses of everyday materials

At Feltham Hill we provide your child with lots of varied opportunities to Work Scientifically, learn the Core Areas and develop their curiosity:

  • Busy learning

  • Enrichment
