RE around our school

The aim of Religious Education in the Borough of Hounslow is to help children and young people to learn about and learn from religious and spiritual insights, beliefs and practices.

In Feltham Hill Infant and Nursery School we teach RE in accordance with the locally agreed syllabus (Widening Horizons).

The Core Areas of teaching RE are:

As part of our Enrichment Curriculum we are organising visits to local places of worship and visits from people of different religious backgrounds.

Topic: Special places and prayer

RE focus: special places, quiet and safe places, places of worship, Christian Church, Sikh Gurdwara, Buddhist Temple.

Topic: New Babies

RE focus: how babies are welcomed, Christian Baptism (special objects, baptism at the church), John the Baptist, welcoming Sikh babies.

Topic: Worship at home

RE focus: Hindu Puja tray, Buddhist shrine, Islamic prayer mat, Shabbat (creation story, special artefacts).

Autumn 2

Spring 2

Summer 2

Topic: Light and Christmas

RE focus: Diwali (light and dark, Story of Rama and Sita, Divas), Hannukah, Christingle, Nativity story.

Topic: Christian artefacts and Easter

RE focus: Christian artefacts (candle, rosary beads, Chalice and Paten), The cross, Easter (Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday).

Topic: Religious Stories

RE focus: Guru Nanak, Noah’s Ark, Joseph, Bilal and the call to prayer.

Topic: Belonging

RE focus: belonging to a group, belonging to the Jewish faith, belonging to the Muslim faith

Topic: Judaism

RE focus: festivals (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur), being a leader, Moses (as a baby, as a leader, giving God’s rules).

Topic: Sikhism

RE focus: The Khanda, how the Khalsa was formed, special objects (the five Ks), Guru Granth Sahib, Gurdwara.

Autumn 2

Summer 2

Topic: Diwali and gifts / Christmas

RE focus: Diwali – gifts and gifts that cost nothing, Christian gifts, the Wise Men’s gifts, Christmas (God’s gift).

Topic: Christian stories and Easter

Re focus: stories about Jesus in the Bible (the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan), Easter (the Last Supper, Good Friday, celebration).

Topic: Sacred texts

RE focus: different religious stories and texts: the Torah, religious symbols, Islamic art, the Qu’ran, illuminated script in the Bible.


 Foundation Stage pupils have the opportunities to develop their knowledge and understanding of the world through RE lessons



All our pupils are very proud to present their work, in which they have used different skills to help their understanding of various religions.


 Our school provides opportunities for enrichment through visits to places of worship.​​
