Mary Seacole visited Year 1
As part of the year 1's Hero topic and Black History Month, they had an actress come in and be Mary Seacole- a real hero. She was a Jamaican business woman and nurse, who had set up a British hotel behind the lines during the Crimean War. Here's what the Year 1 children found out ...
"She lives in Jamaica and she makes people better who are poorly and she goes to lots of different countries"- Lucy & Shay.
"She got good at treating Cholera and yellow fever and she helped in the war"- Alec.
"Mary Seacole died a long time ago"- Grace.
"She has a hotel in Jamaica and she wants people to call her Mother Seacole"- Charlie.
"I remember she said the soldiers have yellow fever, some people say yellow skin"- Carlos.
